Best Cigars to Smoke Halloween 2024
Halloween is a celebration most popular in the United States, although it’s gaining popularity in other parts of the world too. When I was younger, I never saw Halloween decorations in Europe or Asia, but now people are decorating their homes and dressing up for the occasion.
Interestingly, Halloween has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as a time to honor saints. Eventually, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before All Saints Day became known as All Hallows’ Eve, which later evolved into Halloween.
Like many other holidays, some cigar manufacturers have taken advantage of Halloween’s popularity to release themed cigars. Here are some that we at Cigarinspector.com think are perfect for the occasion:
Tatuaje Monster Series
This is not just one cigar, but a whole series inspired by classic horror movies. Originally, the plan was to release 12 cigars over 12 years, each based on iconic horror characters. It has since expanded to include Pudgy Monsters, Skinny Monsters, and other variations.
Tatuaje Halloween
I’m not sure if I should list this one since it was an event-only release by Tatuaje several years ago. However, if you can find one, the Connecticut Broadleaf-wrapped Tatuaje Halloween is a great cigar for the holiday. The name and Jack o’ Lantern on the ring make it a Halloween classic with an eerie twist.
Viaje Full Moon
Debuting in 2013, the Viaje Full Moon featured packaging designed to resemble a full moon, complete with a bright orange jack-o’-lantern on the lid. While the packaging has become more traditional, the jack-o’-lantern theme has remained. The original Nicaraguan puro now has an Edición Limitada version with a Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper.
Gurkha Ghost
The Gurkha Ghost is a sleek, dark cigar and one of the few Gurkha cigars that Inspector X actually enjoys. It features a Brazilian Arapiraca Maduro wrapper and carefully selected Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The Ghost Gold version swaps the wrapper for a smooth Ecuadorian Habano, creating an ultra-smooth medium-bodied blend.
Diesel Wicked
Diesel Wicked is a full-bodied, complex cigar that’s not for the faint of heart. Blended by A.J. Fernandez, it features a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers. Wicked by name, wicked by nature—this cigar is perfect for Halloween.
Asylum Straight Jacket
The Asylum Straight Jacket is a limited-edition Nicaraguan puro blended by Christian Eiroa and Tom Lazuka. It’s the strongest cigar in the Asylum line, with extra-large sizes like 6″ x 60 and 7″ x 70. Inspired by horror icons like Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees, this cigar is not to be messed with. Its bold construction and intense flavor make it a must-try for the brave.
Punch Diablo
The Punch Diablo is the darkest and fullest Punch cigar to date, made by A.J. Fernandez at his factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Featuring an Ecuadoran Sumatra Oscuro wrapper and aged Nicaraguan and Honduran ligero, this spicy, rich cigar is a journey to the dark side of Punch.
JFR Lunatic
With massive sizes like 8″ x 80, the JFR Lunatic is for those who think bigger is better. Made with Aganorsa tobacco, the Lunatic series offers great flavor at an excellent price. It’s available in several wrappers, including Habano, Maduro, and Corojo. The Lunatic Torch stands out with its brush foot, delivering a burst of spice before settling into a smoother blend.
Alec Bradley Filthy Ghouligan
Finally, the latest Halloween release: Alec Bradley Filthy Ghouligan. A spin-off from the brand’s popular St. Patrick’s Day cigar, this barberpole cigar shares the same style as the Filthy Hooligan, but with a spooky twist.
What to Smoke on November 1st
After indulging in Halloween-themed cigars, what should you smoke on November 1st? There’s one clear choice: All Saints cigars, made by industry veteran Micky Pegg. Since the day after Halloween is All Saints’ Day, any of their blends would be a perfect fit.
