Cigars to Smoke on Superbowl Sunday
The Super Bowl, the annual finale of the NFL, where two American teams fight for the national title, is not the biggest sport event in the world but its’ the most profitable one with the highest brand value.
The Superbowl takes place at a different location any year with thousands of spectators coming from all over the USA. It’s a gold mine for local bars and cigar vendors. More often than not, players of the winning team celebrate with a cigar either on the pitch or in the dressing room.
There are some cigars that are very fitting for this year’s Superbowl and we listed them.
Legends 52 by Ray Lewis
One of the greatest NFL line-backers of the 21st century teamed up with one of the greatest cigar manufacturers of the same era to produce a cigar featuring a tobacco blend of legendary stature – aptly called Legends 52 by Ray Lewis. The enjoyment of a fine cigar had always been part of Ray Lewis’s preferred pastime off the field. And his passion for the leaf only broadened when he met Rocky at BURN by Rocky Patel back in 2013. The two struck it off right away (despite Rocky’s allegiance to the Green Bay Packers), and a winning cigar brand soon was born.
Camacho Ditka Signature
Ditka teamed up with Camacho in 2012. By the time of the release, Davidoff and Ditka released a press release saying “Camacho, the world’s boldest cigar and a core brand in the Oettinger Davidoff Group portfolio, is pleased to announce a new partnership with legendary hall of fame football player and coach, Mike Ditka. Under this new partnership, the “Coach” and Camacho will develop a series of new cigar lines carrying the Ditka name, which will be made at Tabacos Rancho Jamastran in Honduras”. Nowadays Rancho Jamastran is closed and Davidoff built a new factory in Honduras called Diadema Cigars de Honduras. Some of the Ditka cigars are made there, but there are also Dominican made Ditka cigars by Davidoff on the market now.
“If I am going to put my name on something, it’s got to be the best. The product and the package are outstanding. I am really looking forward to this relationship,” Mike Ditka stated back in 2012.
Eighty5 Cigars
Chad Ochocinco Johnson is an American former professional football player for the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots. Ochocinco, which means “eight five” in Spanish, was also his number. Chad’s passion for cigars inspired him to create his own collection — known to the world as Eighty5 Cigars. Chad fully immersed himself into the production of Eighty5 Cigars, which captures his engaging personality while providing a one-of-a-kind smoking experience. He also travelled overseas to source tobacco, curate blends, and partner with master rollers to ensure that every detail within his cigars are a representation of premium quality and rich tradition
La Flor Dominicana Special Football Edition
For a decade, La Flor Dominicana has released a limited edition cigar especially for the Super Bowl. And this cigar is only available at La Flor Dominicana accounts in the state where the Super Bowl takes place that year. So to get this cigar, find a tobacconist in Louisiana that carries La Flor Dominicana.
The cigar contains some tobacco leaf art on the wrapper in the shape of the egg-shaped American football which adds to the theme. Most of the releases so far have been thick cigars, although they vary in size, colour and shape each year.
Fuente Fuente OpusX Football
Now if you can find them, and if you are willing to splurge a lot of money, you might be able to find one of the extremely rare Fuente Fuente Opus X Football cigars. Fuente made this many moons ago for a charity auction, with only 40 made in total, which all have been auctioned off for prices above $1000 each.
