The Cigar Lounges of Manila – Part 1

April 16, 2025 Inspector X 3 min read

Cigar lounges are increasingly becoming popular in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. These lounges offer a relaxed atmosphere where cigar enthusiasts can enjoy their favourite cigars while socializing with friends or colleagues.

Mandalay

Mandalay, situated within the OPL Building, is often hailed as the successor to the renowned Kipling’s Cigar Bar at the now-closed Mandarin Oriental. Originally conceived as a heartfelt tribute by devoted patrons of the demolished cigar bar, Mandalay resides discreetly within the Belle & Dragon. This clandestine space seamlessly blends an East-meets-West ambiance.

Upon entering Mandalay, guests encounter an array of authentic Cuban cigars among its diverse selection. Beyond cigars, the establishment boasts a collection of whiskies sourced from around the world. The curated list by Lee Watson features award-winning malts from Japan, Taiwan’s Kavalan, and India’s Amrut, providing a global journey for whisky enthusiasts.

1824 Whisky and Cigar Bar

Named after the year when single malt distilleries were granted their initial license, Discovery Primea’s 1824 Whisky and Cigar Bar transports guests to another realm with its subdued tones and wooden accents. This establishment is a dedicated celebration of both whisky and cigars, presenting an ambiance that is truly enchanting.

At 1824, patrons can indulge in not only a remarkable selection of whiskies but also fine offerings of Cognac, wines, and Champagne. A haven for cigar enthusiasts, the bar fulfils every aficionado’s dream, providing cedar spills for those who adhere to tradition. The menu boasts an extensive variety of Cuban and Dominican cigar options, as well as a curated collection of local and imported favourites, including Tabacalera, Don Juan Urquijo, Mazos, Cohiba, and Montecristo.
