Memphis Depay smokes cigars in Twitter video
In the United States, sports championships are celebrated with cigars. Anywhere else in the world, that’s not a tradition. People consider that smoking and being a professional athlete can not go hand in hand, as the general population does not know that cigars are a completely different animal than cigarettes.
In 2013 professional cyclists Nairo Quintana, Chris Froome, and Joachim Rodriguez shocked the viewers of the Tour de France when they lit a cigar during the last stage, to celebrate that they would finish in the top three (Froome won, Quintana was runner-up and Rodriguez finished third). They weren’t the first to light a cigar during a stage, but they were the first to do it in a long time.

Yesterday Dutch football player Memphis Depay, international and now playing for Olympic Lyon in France, posted a video on his Twitter account. In that video he lights a cigar, we think it’s a Cuban Trinidad and does a freestyle rap. And him smoking a cigar, well, that made the Dutch papers.
This raises the question: which professional athlete, former or current, enjoys premium cigars too on a regular basis? Leave a comment if you know any.
