Weekly news week 25 2021

July 18, 2022 Inspector Z 3 min read

Weekly news week 25 2021. As with any consumer product, marketing can play a big part in the success of a brand or line. And that’s the reason why some brands copycat other brands. There are also brands that create false expectations by using regions or countries in the name that are hardly represented in the cigar. A fine example is the Zino Nicaragua, and the Camacho Nicaragua. Both are Honduran cigars, that only use a little bit of Nicaraguan tobacco and not even as the wrapper. Stop that false advertising, it won’t bring your brand anywhere.

Reviews

Two reviews again this week. Both cigars from Nicaragua, but one from a small, private label brand. The other from a powerhouse. Stallone Cigars is the brand of Tony Barrios, an Italian American rodeo star who has his line of cigars. From the Stallone blends, we reviewed the Castano San Andres Robusto. Drew Estate on the other hand doesn’t need any introduction. Each year, the Nicaraguan cigar brand releases an Undercrown in cooperation with Cigar Dojo. We reviewed the Undercrown Sun Grown Dogma.

Cigar news

With the PCA Convention & Trade Show coming in a few weeks, there are a lot of new releases. Protocol Cigars comes with a new blend in the Lawmen series. Bass Reeves, one of the first African American Marshalls is the inspiration for this release. And the company is also releasing its first Gordo ever, in the original “Blue” line. Crowned Heads is releasing a new Crowned Heads Court. Again with a link to music, this time to Eddie Van Halen’s solo in Eruption.

Also from Tabacalera Pichardo, but for ACE Prime comes Fiat Lux. Quesada Cigars is releasing a new Dominican Casa Magna blend and expands the Quesada 1974 line with a new vitola. Oliva announces an advent calendar for the 25 days leading up to Christmas. Matilde Cigars is the next brand to have a cigar from Tabacalera La Isla.

Events & more

Now that Europe is opening up, cigar events start to take place. Davidoff is planning 50 events to re-introduce Zino Nicaragua in Switzerland. The first qualifying tournaments of the Cigar Smoking World Championship will happen in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. These events are part of a bigger Rocky Patel Smokin’ the north tour. Check out the new CSWC website when you have time. The online gatherings from Light ‘em Up are always hard to watch in the Middle East and Asia due to the time difference. But that is a thing of the past with the Light em’ Up Asia/Middle East edition.

PDR now stands for Puros Dominican Republic and the brand’s El Criollito has a new blend. Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is available in Germany. Just as the new Jose L. Piedra Petit Caballeros. Van Dalen Cigars opens its 6th store in The Netherlands in Maastricht. But the city loses the iconic tobacconist Otten, who closes its doors after 110 years. There is a new Habanos Specialist and Lounge in Uganda. Malaysia does not longer exempt premium cigars from ugly graphic warning labels. This was the weekly news for week 25, 2021
