Tatuaje brings back the Cojonu
Tatuaje brings back the Cojonu. In the early 2000s, Tatuaje came out with a strong cigar. A very strong cigar at the time. While blending with Jose ‘Don Pepin’ Garcia, Tatuaje owner Pete Johnson kept pushing for a stronger blend. Garcia thought Johnson lost his mind but went along with his wishes. Once they got what Johnson aimed for, Garcia said that the cigar had some ‘cojones’ (Spanish for balls). That comment was the inspiration for the name: Cojonu. The Tatuaje Gran Cojonu and Gran Cojonu Reserva were born.
3-year gaps
And then there was a new vitola every three years. The Tatuaje Cojonu 2003 is a 6½x52 Toro, the Tatuaje Colonu 2006 is a 5½x52 Belicoso Fino. In 2009, Tatuaje released the Tatuaje Cojonu 2009 in a 6¾x48 Torpedo. And in 2012 there was a 6½x52 Toro. It also came with two wrappers, Sumatra and Broadleaf. Either simple boxes with one blend, or in a book shape with both blends.
Tatuaje fans eagerly awaited until 2015, but unfortunately, there was no new Tatiaje Cojunu release. In 2018, Johnson also did not release a Tatuaje Cojonu. But yesterday Johnson suddenly showed a picture on social media of the Tatuaje 2021. He is releasing the cigar at the PCA Convention & Trade show in a week.
