For the last few years, Maya Selva has been releasing a limited edition cigar for the Chinese new year. And named it after the Chinese zodiac calendar. Selva is not the only cigar brand doing that, with Davidoff as the most prominent competitor. But brands such as VegaFina (Altadis) and Drew Estate released cigars for the year of the pig last year as well. The next sign on the Chinese zodiac calendar is the rat. On January 25 and 26 its Chinese new year, and the year of the pig will change into the year of the rat. Reason for Maya Selva Cigars to release another limited edition.

The cigars will be in a 6×52 vitola and made out of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The filler comes from both countries. The binder comes from the Jalapa valley in Nicaragua. The wrapper is Honduran, from Jamastran. The cigars come in 20 count dress boxes. The design line brings together traditional Chinese patterns and Mayan hieroglyphics. The Rat is the first of the 12-year cycle of animals that represent the Chinese zodiac. According to Chinese tradition, 12 animals guard the gates of Heaven. According to the Mayan tradition, we are all born with a Nahual, or spirit animal, that guides us through life.
