Mombacho Gets a New President

October 24, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

Mombacho gets a new president. The company’s co-founder Cameron Heaps is returning as president of the cigar manufacturer. 15 years ago, Heaps was backpacking through Nicaragua with his friend Markus Raty. They met a cigar blender in Granada and loved his blends. So they created Mombacho Cigars, which is still located in Granada as the only well-known factory of premium handmade cigars not located in Esteli.

That whole trip made Heaps fall in love with Nicaragua. He was captivated by the spirit of the Nicaraguan people, their vibrant culture, and the stunning beauty of historical Granada, finishing his trip with a most memorable moment of enjoying a cigar on the top of Volcano Mombacho. This moment transpired into 15 years of successful manufacturing and sales, direct from the heart of Granada, Nicaragua.

Craft beer

Heaps comes from thirty years in the craft beer industry where he Co-founded and operated Steam Whistle Brewing. More recently he and his partners have revived the legendary Pantera Performance Boat brand.

Claudio Sgroi, Master Blender, and Partner of Mombacho Cigars commented: “It’s great to have Cam now heading operations, and what a perfect way to celebrate our 15th year anniversary. Cam’s oversight has always been key in Mombacho’s business, but his deeper involvement will be crucial for taking Mombacho to the next level. As business partners and colleagues, we are excited for what the future holds for Mombacho.”

Heaps adds, “It is an honor to be joining Claudio and the Mombacho family in Nicaragua. Their hard work, passion, and warm spirits have positioned us well for continued success and growth.”

International expansion

In the last few years, Mombacho Cigars is expanding outside the United States. The brand is now available in several markets in Europe, Africa, and Asia. The factory, Casa Favilli, is a 100-year-old neo-classical mansion. It was the house of the Italian architect that designed most of the iconic buildings in the colonial town of Granada. All the cigars from Mombacho are Nicaraguan Puros.
