Vegas de Santiago for the Benelux

October 24, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

Vegas de Santiago for the Benelux. The Swiss Costa Rican brand Vegas de Santiago is coming to The Netherlands. Marc Niehaus from Vegas de Santiago and Steph Kronenburg from Gajane Benelux confirm the news to us.

Vegas de Santiago is one of the best-known brands from Costa Rica. For over twenty years, the Niehaus family is making cigars in the Central American country. Costa Rica is the 5th largest premium cigar-producing country in the Caribbean.

D8

Gajane Benelux is starting distribution in The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg with just the Vegas de Santiago D8 line. But according to Kronenburg, the Vegas de Santiago portfolio in the Benelux will grow in short term.

The Vegas de Santiago D8 has a Ecuadorian Habano 2000 wrapper and an Ecuadorian binder. The filler comes from Peru, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. For now, the 6×60 Emperador, 6×54 Wide Churchill, 5×50 Robusto, and 4×50 Petit Robusto are on the roster for release. The prices per cigar will be €9,50, €8,75, €7,50, and €6,25.

Some history

After Rudy Niehaus retired, he and his wife Lani, packed their bags and moved to Costa Rica. It’s there where they met the Guzman family. The Guzman family was making cigars for decades and the Niehaus family joined forces. Since then, the brand has been growing with a bigger presence in Europe.

Nowadays Marc Niehaus, the son of Rudy and Lani, is in control. After his parents passed away, he is the face and the brains of the company. His hard work pays off with this distribution agreement with Gajane Benelux, as it ensures distribution in three more countries.
