J Cortes becomes VCF Nederland. Which stands for Vandermarliere Cigar Family. With the growing portfolio of different brands, it’s important to create a new umbrella for all the brands and to move forward as one. The change is limited to the Benelux for now, what happens on the other markets will be revealed shortly.

Maurits Vandermarliere started his tobacco shop and cigar factory 95 years ago. In the following 95 years, several brands were acquired including NEOS and J. Cortes. In more recent years, Cortes also set foot in the premium longfiller market with Calvano and the purchase of Oliva Cigars. And the tobacco plantations of Oliva. And earlier this week, Cortes acquired the famous Dutch cigar manufacturer Olifant Sigaren. 

The brands

In The Netherlands, the best-known brands of the Vandermarliere Cigar Family are J. Cortes, Neos, Jacob van Meer, Country, en dan Oliva en Olifant. To better position those brands in the market, and to make clear that they are all family, the name Vandermarliere Cigar Family was chosen. And it can be named a family. Vandermarliere Cigar Family is a family business. The 4th generation, Fred Vandermarliere is running the company with his father as chairman.

Last week, we were visiting Belgium. We went to the NEOS cigar factory and the Vandermarliere Cigar Family headquarters in Zwevegem. Articles on the visit to both places will be published soon. One thing we can reveal, Vandermarliere Cigar family respects the old, but also embraces the new and is ready for the future.
