STG stops distributing La Aurora in Belgium

July 22, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

STG stops distributing La Aurora in Belgium. For the longest time, Scandinavian Tobacco Group was the distributor for La Aurora in The Benelux. A few years ago, the Danish tobacco giant already stopped distributing the brand in The Netherlands. But recently STG decided to pull the plug in Belgium and Luxembourg too. And with that, the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic loses its foothold in the Benelux.

La Aurora

The oldest cigar factory of the Dominican Republic stems from 1903. And back in those days, the Dominican Republic was a tough place. No roads, no cars, nothing. Yet the serial entrepreneur Leon Jimines took a leap of faith and started Tabacalera La Aurora. With that, he paved the way for the many other factories that followed his footsteps. Companies such as Tabadom (Davidoff), Tabacalera La Palma, Arturo Fuente, Quesada, Tabacalera El Artista, La Flor Dominicana, and PDR to name a few. To name all the factories would be impossible. The factory is still in the hands of the Leon family.

If Scandinavian Tobacco Group still has stock and will offer the remaining stock to retailers, or that the distribution already came to a full stop remains a question mark. But new stock won’t come in through Scandinavian Tobacco Group. This gives other importers and distributors of premium cigars in Belgium the opportunity to bring in a brand with almost 120 years of history. With a growing number of importers active on the Belgian market, it is not a question of if but a question of when La Aurora is returning to Flanders, Walloon, and the Brussels Capital Region.
