Home by Dissident is coming
Home by Dissident is coming. The annual limited edition is on its way to American retailers as we speak. It’s the third Dissident Home under the ownership of Benjamin Holt. The cigars come from Fabrica Oveja Negra, a factory Holt knows well as he was a sales representative for Black Label Trading Company and related brand. BLTC and Fabrica Oveja Negra are both owned by James and Angela Brown.
Dissident
The Dissident brand was founded in 2013 by The Humidor Cigars and Lounge in Wichita, Kansas. Two then employees of that shop Gorden Crippen and Ryan Johnson were also part of Dissident cigars. They were co-founders and the faces of the brand. In 2015 they left both the retail shop and Dissident cigars. The brand became dormant until Benjamin Holt bought the brand in 2018.
The first thing Holt did was to change the cigars. Where the original Dissident was a puro from Honduras, production went to Nicaragua. To Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli. The brand now has core lines with the Soapbox and Bloc. The Rave, Rant, and Tirade are small batch cigars. And the annual limited edition is Home.
Home 2021
For 2021, Holt went for a 6×52 box press. A toro that comes in boxes of 20. How many boxes are available is not known. But the blend is. There is a dual wrapper, one Ecuadorian Maduro and one Corojo. Then there is an Ecuadorian binder with Nicaraguan filler. The blend is a little different than the previous editions. Since Dissident does not have international distribution yet, the Dissident Home is exclusively available in the United States.
