Brun del Re back in The Netherlands

October 20, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

Brun del Re back in The Netherlands. The Costa Rican cigar brand was available in The Netherlands a few years ago. But their distributor back then went belly up and since then it’s been quiet. But now Brun del Re returns to The Netherlands. And not only there, but also in Belgium and Luxembourg through Gajane Benelux.

Brun del Re

Like many other brands, this is a Swiss-owned brand. It is surprising that there are so many brands from the central European country. The Corazza family has had a long relationship with tobacco. Tobacco plantations and trade in the region of Friuli in Italy are part of their vast family background. But after a vacation to Cuba, Carlo Corazza decided to take it a step further. During that trip, he fell in love with premium handmade cigars. So he went out to start a brand for the family. That brand is Brun del Re.

After testing many factories in many countries, Corazza found his match in Costa Rica. That’s where all Brun del Re cigars are made. Not all lines use Costa Rican tobacco, but Brun del Re does its best to promote the quality of Costa Rican tobacco.

 The lines

The first three Brun del Re lines that will be available in the Benelux are the Brunde del Re Premium, Brun del Re Gold, and the 1787 series. The Brun del Re Premium Robusto comes in at €8,00. It is made with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Indonesian binder. The filler comes from Nicaragua. The Brun del Re Gold Robusto has a price tag of €8,60 and is made with an Ecuadorian wrapper and Indonesian binder. The filler comes from both Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

There will be several vitolas available from the 1787 series. The 6×60 Libertad Supremo with a price tag of 11 euro is a Costa Rican puro. That means that wrapper, binder, and filler come from Costa Rica. That goes for the €9,00 5½x50 Jaguar as well as for the other sizes. The other sizes are the 4×60 Robusto llm with a price of €7,50, 5×58 Pig for €7,60, and the 3×44 Piccolo. These small cigars will set cigar smokers in the Benelux back €4,40. Part of the proceeds of the 1787 line goes to wildlife preservation.
