Weekly news week 20 2021

July 19, 2022 Inspector Z 3 min read

Weekly news week 20 2021. On Sunday we always publish a special, interview, or editorial. This week, it was a challenge. A challenge for cigar manufacturers. In the old days, Connecticut Shade meant that tobacco came from Connecticut. Sumatra came from Indonesia, Cameroon came from Africa. Nowadays these names are the names of tobaccos, grown in different regions. But Connecticut from Honduras is different from Ecuador. Connecticut from the United States is different from Nicaragua. It would be nice to have a sampler available with the exact same filler and binder, but with Connecticut Shade from different regions so consumers can learn about the difference in tobacco from certain regions.

Reviews

The reviews this week came from Nicaragua and Honduras. The Black Works Studio Killer Bee Green Hornet is a cigar from Fabrica de Tobacco Oveja Negra. This is a wonderful-looking cigar where little pieces of Candela wrapper are used to decorate the cigar. The second cigar review is the Asylum Seven 11/18. This is the cigar that celebrates the 7th birthday of Asylum Cigars in a vitola that’s unique to the Eiroa family.

New Cigars

Coprova, the distributor for Habanos in France, is confirming that the Quai D’Orsay Clemenceau is coming this year. It is the French regional edition for the 2020 program, but as often happens with Habanos releases, it is coming with a long delay. Asylum 13 is releasing two new cigars. The Asylum 9, to celebrate the 9th birthday of Asylum 13 Cigars and a cigar that was meant as an April fools joke. A 9×90 Asylum 13, limited to 1000 boxes only.

This week Black Label Trading Company announced the return of the annual Bishops blend. In the same three sizes as last year. The limited-edition is coming to Belgium as well. With the Lawless and the Black Works Studio Hyena. Luciano The Dreamer is returning as a regular production cigar. ACE Prime had a lot of positive feedback on the original small batch release. That made the company decide to release the cigars again. And just for the American market, Alec Bradley is releasing a box-pressed version of the Magic Toast. This is exclusively available to retailers that visit the PCA convention and trade show.

Other news

Bossner changes distributor in The Netherlands. The new distributor is Gajane Benelux and the brand is now available in The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Plasencia Cigars is embracing new technology. The Alma Fuerte Sixto I Hexagon Colorado Claro comes with a chip. With your smartphone, you can scan the chip and read information about the cigar and the Plasencia legacy. Casdagli Cigars is new in Ghana. And there is news about two former Mombacho employees. Jessi Flores is leaving Mombacho after less than a month to focus on his own business. Former Mombacho master blender and general manager Claudio Sgroi starts a tobacco consulting business. This was the weekly news for week 20, 2021.
