A new Kafie 1901 emerging this winter. Today is the birthday of Dr. Gaby Kafie, the Honduran American physician who is now making cigars and coffee in Honduras to promote the country. He is proud of his ancestry, and the history they share with Honduras and that’s why Dr. Kafie is a strong advocate for Honduran cigars and coffee.
Today is not just any birthday, but the 50th birthday of Dr. Kafie and Kafie 1901 is releasing a cigar to commemorate that special occasion. Not as a limited edition but as a new regular production line. The fifth under the Kafie 1901 name. The name of the new line is Kafie 1901 Serie L, where the L stands for the roman script 50 to connect the cigar to the 50th birthday of Dr. Kafie.

This day marks the 50th year of celebration of my life. I have had the great privilege to serve many roles in my life, most of which have been self-created and appointed. I have served as founder and principal of Kafie Trading Company, LLC, a company specializing in manufacturing premium boutique cigars & roasting small-batch coffee. Our loyalty to brick-and-mortar retailers has never wavered.

As a physician, my life has centered around the unselfish quest for always finding time to help others, in any capacity. Although I no longer practice medicine, I find that my core principles have not changed or wavered. In 2016, I founded the Boutique Cigar Association, a nonprofit organization focused on helping small boutique cigar brands find their place in the market. The BCA has been very outspoken locally and nationally always protecting the interests of small producers.
My satisfaction has always come from helping others, not expecting anything in return but instead building a community that can work towards protecting & elevating the boutique cigar craft around the world.
Five years later, the first-ever www.boutiquecigarfestival.com is taking place. Bringing together over 20 cigar manufacturers at a venue known as the Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery, and Distillery. Their partnership in hosting this event on August 13 & 14, 2021 is greatly appreciated. Over 2000 people are expected to attend this Boutique Cigar event.
Life is a journey of milestones, successes, and failures. The secret is to always learn from your failures and minimize them or whenever possible learn from the mistakes of others. The premium cigar industry has given me a new and positive outlook on my journey in life. Living with a visual impairment (disability) is not easy, but I do my best to try not to let it affect operations. I truly feel this journey I am on is a blessing, a second calling. My passion is to produce the finest cigars coming out of Honduras.
Seven years into my career as a premium cigar manufacturer, I am now focused on what is to be the most important blend. Important because it marks an important milestone in my life. Turning 50 is a huge year for everyone, for me particularly it represents how much I have had to learn to get to where I’m at today.
To date we have introduced 4 permanent blends to market under the Kafie 1901 Cigars brand.… 3 of which have been nominated for the highly prestigious Cigar Journal Trophy awards (2018 – 2021). Don Fernando Maduro (named after my father Don Fernando Kafie Sr.), Kafie 1901 Connecticut, Kafie 1901 Sumatra & Kafie 1901 San Andres.
We are currently working on a cigar to celebrate my 7 years in the premium cigar industry. It will be produced at our factory Tabacalera San Jerónimo in Danli, Honduras.
I am going to release a special cigar named the Kafie 1901 Serie L to commemorate this special moment in my life. I have learned so much about tobacco, fermentation, and tobacco processing in the past 7 years I would like to feature the talents of our entire team in this blend.“
The blend will consist of an Ecuador Habano wrapper aged 4 years. This blend will implement all the teachings that I gathered from working with the late family of Rolando Reyes Sr. , as well as our current team in Honduras. Binder and filler tobaccos will be from Nicaragua. This will be a permanent line for our company and will be distributed globally. We have been working on this blend for the past 18 months. As this will be a winter 2021 release, more information will be available as the date approaches. Packaging will be in 20 count boxes, 2 rows of 10. Traditional 100% Spanish cedar all-natural wooden boxes. The first shipment is set to arrive on November 05, 2021. Vitolas offered are 6×60, 6×52, 6×46, and 7×38.
