United Cigars Brings Back a 250 Year Old Brand for its Anniversary.

June 6, 2022 Billie 2 min read

The brand, Red Anchor, has its origin in The Netherlands as it once was a Dutch cigar but now it’s a cigar made in the Dominican Republic. The relaunch will take place at the PCA Convention & Trade Show in July with one single vitola. It’s a 6×54 Toro with the name The Admiral. There will only be 250 boxes of 25 cigars available, with undisclosed recipe.

The production of the cigars takes place at the Kelner Boutique Factory, and it so happens to be that Hendrik Kelner Jr is of Dutch descent.  “Four years have passed since the start of this project. Every aspect of Red Anchor has been carefully crafted to properly encapsulate the 250-year history,” says Oliver Nivaud, director of operations at United Cigars. “Working closely with Hendrik Kelner and the KBF team has been very smooth, this is a perfect marriage.”

The Red Anchor cigars have a history dating back to the 1770s when it was registered at first by a retailer and two years later Red Anchor cigars were made in a small factory in Delft, The Netherlands. The brand survived for 167 years until new excise taxes and changes in legislation caught up with the brand. United Cigars purchased the trademark and they already use the brand name for a Red Anchor Maduro as a shop-exclusive cigar for Two Guys Smoke Shop.
