Pacific Cigar Company Celebrate the Release of the Cohiba 55 Aniversario
Last night, Pacific Cigar Company, one of the largest Habanos distributors in the world, celebrated the release of the Cohiba 55 Aniversario in several countries of their territory at the same time. Some countries where parties were hosted were Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, and Hong Kong. In each country, only 55 people were invited to enjoy the new Cohiba limited edition which will sell for exorbitant prices (€300 in Germany) when they hit the market.
The event started with a video of PCC’s regional marketing director Norio Hattori in front of the famous El Laguito Cigar Factory where all Cohiba cigars are rolled. After that, the specific country manager of each location introduced the cigar with a short speech and all the attendees had the opportunity to be the first in their respective countries to light this monster of a cigar.
The cigar is a new vitola with the factory name Victoria. It measures 150mm in length and has a ring gauge of 57. Which is a bit odd as a ring gauge of 55 would have been so much more fitting for a 55th anniversary right? And that 2/64 of an inch won’t make much of a difference anyway. The cigar itself looks flawless, like you can expect from a Cohiba with a quite dark wrapper. You could tell that the cigar was very young, still unbalanced bit with a few years of aging this could potentially be a knock-out cigar. Currently it’s not ready, it starts with chocolate and earthiness before black pepper kicks in. And so much black pepper that it could fool someone to think it was one of Don Pepin’s earlier blends or something made by A.J. Fernandez with Nicaraguan tobacco. But give it time and this Cohiba 55 Aniversario will blossom into a fantastic cigar.
Cigar Inspector would like to thank PCC for the invite and giving us the opportunity to enjoy this cigar as one of the happy few. It is an honour.
