Nick Fusco is Coming out With El Mago Cigars as a Tribute to his Grandparents
Nick Fusco is coming out with El Mago cigars, as a tribute to his grandparents Maria and Gonzalo Torre who died in 2021 when their building The Champlain Towers suddenly collapsed in the middle of the night in Miami, Florida. The name translates to The Wizard and is a reference to The Champlain Towers suddenly collapsed in the middle of the nigh. That the first two letters of their names form Mago is even more fitting.
Maria and Gonzalo came from Cuba and lived in Czechoslovakia, Canada and Venezuela before settling in Miami. Nick learned to smoke cigars from his grandparents, in classic Cuban-Miami fashion, Gonzalo would smoke a cigar at the front desk of his hotel, The James Hotel, every day.
“It is my honour to keep their legacy alive and share their story through a tradition that was passed down from one generation to the next,” says Nick Fusco, creator and owner of El Mago Cigars.
El Mago is releasing several cigars, all made in Nicaragua, starting with the Pepe. That cigar has a Mexican San Andres wrapper over a US Broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan filler. It’s available in a box-pressed 6×52 Toro.
The El Mago Triumfante has an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Corojo binder from undisclosed origin and Nicaraguan filler. The same box-pressed 6×52 vitola is chosen for this blend.
The El Mago Miami Maduro has a 2-tone San Andres wrapper over a Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan filler. This one is available as a 6×52 Box-pressed toro too
The Miami Art Deco cigar has an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Broadleaf binder from the USA. Nicaraguan filler finishes this 6×52 Toro.
