Caldwell Cigar Company and Bellatto Premium Cigars are Forced to Discontinue Some of Their Lines
Caldwell Cigar Company and Bellatto Premium Cigars are forced to discontinue some of their lines due to last week’s fire at Tabacalera William Ventura and Intercigar. The lines that are discontinued are the La Barba Purple, La Barba Red, Eastern Standard Sungrown, The Last Tsar, Midnight Express, Pacific Standard. The future of Savages is unclear. Caldwell and Bellatto says they have stock of the discontinued lines in their warehouses and will continue to sell until sold out.
The fire destroyed the building that Tabacalera William Ventura and Intercigar were in, including all the cigars, tobacco and equipment. William Ventura has another factory, El Maestro, and some of the production can be continued at the other factory. El Maestro and other buildings used to store tobacco were unaffected by the fire, which will allow production to shift while Tabacalera William Ventura is rebuilt. William Ventura works with his sons Henderson and Wiber and daughter Nataly.
Robert Caldwell of Caldwell Cigar Co. says “We have grown through bugs, plugs, storms, droughts, strikes, shortages, surpluses, fights, threats, pain and pride. Without the Ventura’s, there would be no Caldwell and vice versa. We have worked in stride over the last ten years and have grown into family with a common goal of moving forward.”
Tabacalera William Henderson also produces cigars for Freud Cigar Company, Room 101, Adventura & McKay and others. Intercigar produces for companies such as German Engineered Cigars. German Engineered Cigars already said they have enough stock for the next few months, other brands have not commented on the situation so far.
The production for the new Lost & Found, Blind Man’s Bluff Maduro, Eastern Standard, Long Live the King, Long Live the King Mad Mofo and all three Ricochet blends are moved to El Maestro. Caldwell is also saying he’s talking to some of his friends in the industry to create new projects. But he won’t abandon the Ventura family. “We started our brand with them 10 years ago. Ironically, our first production order was placed almost exactly 10 years ago to the day. We have been with them the whole time, through thick and through thin,” said Caldwell. “The beauty is that all of us are resilient, so this is a hurdle we will jump, not a wall that will stop us.”
