Habanos Releasing Cohiba Siglo de Oro Year of the Rabbit

February 20, 2023 Inspector L 2 min read

Four years ago, the Spanish Habanos distributor released a Cohiba Year of the Pig, exclusively for the Spanish market. It was the first Habanos that used the Chinese zodiac calendar as inspiration. Habanos copied the idea and we have seen a ‘year of the’ release ever since. And the year of the rabbit, 2023, won’t be an exception as Habanos is releasing the Cohiba Siglo de Oro Year of the Rabbit.

The Cohiba Siglo de Oro measures 4½x54 and is a size that has never been made by Habanos before. The factory name is Exitosos. There will be 18.888 boxes of 18 cigars made with a focus on the number 8, which means prosperity in Chinese culture. The box includes an NFC and various rabbit graphics. The NFC makes it harder for counterfeiters to copy the cigar, it can be used for verification and the consumers can learn more about the cigar.

The cigars were launched in Asia, where the distributors Infifon (mainland China) and Pacific Cigar Company, held introduction events. “At present, China is the most important market in value for our business, and Cohiba is the most recognized Habanos’ brand worldwide,” said the company in a press release. “That is why we wanted to take advantage of this occasion to present such a special vitola as Cohiba Siglo de Oro, and to showcase the implementation of NFC technology to make the experience for aficionados even more complete.”

In addition to paying tribute to the Year of the Rabbit, the Siglo de Oro also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Cohiba Línea 1492, best known for the various Siglo named sizes, like Siglo IV and Siglo VI.
