Selected Tobacco Introduces Alfonso Gran Selección: A Darker and Aged Cigar with French Oak Influence
Selected Tobacco S.A. released the Alfonso Extra Añejo last year. The cigars are aged in French oak and now a sequel is coming under the name the Alfonso Gran Selección. It has a darker flavour profile with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over Peruvian binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
The cigars are aged for five years in Spanish cedar lined rooms, with different levels of humidity during the duration of aging. The last part of the aging process is done in rooms with French oak, inspired by the wine industry.
The Alfonso Gran Selección will debut in five sizes and is limited to 200 boxes of 25 per vitola per year. “Our experimentation with French Oak aging has led to amazing cigars ” said Nelson Alfonso, owner of Selected Tobacco, in a press release. “The Alfonso Gran Selección is the next great example of our dedication to patience and exploration.”
