Rumors Swirl as Dannemann Tobacco and Plasencia Cigars Allegedly Hold Meeting
Cigarinspector hears rumours about the cigar industry at least once a week. Normally, we don’t publish these rumours. Rumours about brands changing distributors, rumours about companies being taken over, about collaborations. We follow up on those rumours, most of them remain rumours and we don’t deem them worth publishing. Yet, every once in a while there is a rumour that peaks our interest, and if there is a reason to publish the rumour, we will.
Over the weekend, Inspector X heard a rumour that Dannemann Tobacco, known for their Brazilian Dannemann premium cigars and their range of machine made cigarillos such as Al Capone is about to acquire Plasencia Cigars, the largest tobacco grower for premium tobacco in Central America and the producer of not only Plasencia Cigars but many private label cigars as well.
At first glimpse, it sounds like a rumour with no real basis. Why would the Plasencia family sell its successful business with already the 6th generation being groomed to successfully grow the business. But as with any rumour, Cigarinspector did reach out to some of our sources. One of the sources confirmed that as we speak, Dannemann and Plasencia are having a meeting in Miami, with big bosses from both companies at the table.
If Dannemann is acquiring Plasencia, we don’t know. But that something is being talked about between the two companies is certain. We will keep a finger on the pulse and report as soon as we know more.
