Gurkha Cigars Discontinues San Miguel and Treinta Lines to Make Room for New Offerings
Gurkha Cigars is discontinuing two lines that the company made with Aganorsa Leaf, the San Miguel and the Treinta. According to Gurkha, it is a move to make space in the portfolio for future growth. Both blends were released quite recent, in 2020 and 2019.
“We fully recognize that shelf space is real estate in our industry,” said Juan Lopez, vp of sales for Sales at Gurkha Cigars, via a press release. “In order to continue to offer new and improved products, we have made the tough decision to discontinue a couple of the old ones.”
The Treinta was released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the year that Kaizad Hansotia bought the Gurkha brand. Hansotia was supposed to sell his stock in Gurkha after racist remarks on Facebook in June of 2020, but it is a big question whether that actually happened. Gurkha says it will celebrate the 35th Anniversary next year with a new blend.
San Miguel is an old Dominican brand that was brought back by Gurkha late 2020 as a Nicaraguan cigar, with a shade grown wrapper. The boxes will disappear but Gurkha has a big inventory of humidified sampler packs including the San Miguel. Once those packs are gone, the San Miguel will disappear completely.
Gurkha has cigars made by a lot of different factories, the Treinta and San Miguel, were the first to be made by Aganorsa and are the ones on the chopping board. Could there be another reason that exactly these two are discontinues?
