The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Responds to Feedback: Media Access Made Easier
The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) has decided to revise its policy concerning media members attending its annual trade show. Starting from 2024, media members will no longer be required to pay dues to access the event, a change influenced by feedback from the media regarding costs and access during the trade show.
The PCA, an organization representing various stakeholders in the cigar industry including manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers, holds a pivotal annual trade show, providing a platform for industry members to connect and discuss trends and challenges.
Previously, media members, categorized as “industry partners,” were charged $450 annually for access to the trade show. However, the PCA has now opted to revert to its older policy from the early 2010s. Members of the media will still need to prove their engagement with the cigar industry through previous works such as articles and videos to qualify for a media badge.
Adjustments have also been made regarding show floor access. Media members can now access the floor alongside exhibitors before the official start of the show. Media badges will now also include access to the opening reception of the trade show.
This policy revision aims to restrict media badges to genuine industry journalists and prevent misuse by ensuring that only those actively covering the cigar industry are allowed access to the event. It is a strategic move by the PCA to maintain the integrity of the event while making it more accessible and conducive to authentic industry coverage.
