J.C. Newman Scores with Limited Edition NBA All-Star Game Court Humidor

This week, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. pays homage to the harmonious relationship between cigars and sporting events through a limited edition humidor. This distinctive humidor not only includes exclusive cigars but is crafted from a truly exclusive material: wood sourced from the floor of the 2011 NBA All-Star Game court.

Artisan Jason LeGear, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, meticulously handcrafted only 40 of these humidors, considering the rarity of the wood. Part of the NBA’s Reclaimed program, dedicated to repurposing NBA game courts, each humidor is a unique piece, showcasing the surface of the wood adorned with scuffs and scratches from the actual game. The lids feature inlays crafted from sections of the blue three-point line, and the interior is elegantly lined with Spanish cedar.

Drew Newman, the fourth-generation owner, highlighted the significance of this creation, stating, “Basketball is an American game. As the oldest American cigar company and maker of the all-American cigar, it’s our privilege to celebrate the greatest basketball players in the world with a humidor made from the wood that they competed on.”

The humidor is accompanied by 30 cigars from J.C. Newman’s The American brand, featuring an exclusive All-Star size measuring 6 1/2 inches by 50 ring gauge. Rolled at the El Reloj factory in Tampa, Florida, The American is comprised entirely of tobaccos cultivated in the United States, including a Florida sun-grown wrapper, Connecticut broadleaf binder, and a blend of fillers from Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Each set includes a certificate of authenticity and a Boveda starter kit. With a capacity to hold up to 90 cigars, the entire set is priced at $3,000 and is currently shipping to retailers. Notably, among the 40 humidors produced, one will be displayed at the El Reloj museum at the company’s headquarters in Tampa, while another will be sent to the NBA.
