Escobar Cigars Launches New AJ Fernandez Blends

June 12, 2024 Inspector X 2 min read

Escobar Cigars, a brand partially owned by the renowned rapper Nas, has started shipping its latest core line: a trio of blends crafted by the acclaimed cigar maker AJ Fernandez. This new line includes the Escobar Connecticut, Escobar Habano, and Escobar Maduro, each offering unique compositions and flavours.

The Escobar Connecticut features a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed wrapper, complemented by an Ecuadorian Habano binder. Its filler blend is predominantly Nicaraguan tobacco, making up 75 percent, with the remaining 25 percent sourced from Honduras. This combination promises a balanced and refined smoking experience.

The Escobar Habano, on the other hand, utilizes an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper paired with a Nicaraguan binder. Its filler blend is evenly split between Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos, providing a robust and flavourful profile that caters to a more diverse palate.

Completing the trio is the Escobar Maduro, which stands out with its Mexican San Andrés wrapper. This cigar also includes a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers, delivering a rich and complex smoking experience that Maduro enthusiasts are likely to appreciate.

All three cigars are available in five distinct sizes, maintaining consistent pricing across the different blends. The options are as follows:
• Escobar Connecticut/Habano/Maduro Corona (5 x 42) — $12.70 (Box of 20, $254)
• Escobar Connecticut/Habano/Maduro Robusto (5 x 50) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270)
• Escobar Connecticut/Habano/Maduro Toro (6 x 52) — $14 (Box of 20, $280)
• Escobar Connecticut/Habano/Maduro Belicoso (6 x 54) — $14 (Box of 20, $280)
• Escobar Connecticut/Habano/Maduro Gordo (6 1/4 x 58) — $14.50 (Box of 20, $290)

The involvement of Nas in Escobar Cigars came to light in 2021 when Puros Privados, the parent company of the brand, announced his addition as an equity partner. This collaboration is significant not only because of Nas’s influence but also due to the personal connection—Nas often refers to himself as “Escobar,” a nickname he popularized in his 1997 track “Escobar ’97.”

Puros Privados is led by David Gomes and Michael McNaughton, who have guided the brand’s expansion. Escobar Cigars now boasts distribution in over 20 countries and is working to increase its presence in humidors across the United States. The strategic partnership and innovative blends signal an exciting era for the company as it aims to establish a stronger foothold in the premium cigar market.
