Arturo Fuente Limited Release of Rare Vintage Dominican Cigars for Collectors

June 19, 2024 Inspector X 2 min read

Straight from the aging room, a limited selection of vintage Dominican cigars from Arturo Fuente is making its way to retailers this week, promising connoisseurs a rare treat. This special release features two distinct lines: the Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario and the Fuente Fuente OpusX Lost City.

The Arturo Fuente Aged Selection showcases the Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario, a line created in 2006 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Don Carlos brand. These cigars are unique for their replacement of the traditional Cameroon wrapper with a Dominican OpusX cover leaf, providing a distinct twist on the classic Don Carlos flavour. Two aged sizes from this celebrated series are set for release: the Toro, which measures 6 1/4 inches by 48 ring gauge, and the Double Robusto, at 5 3/4 by 52. These cigars are priced at $39.50 each, with the Double Robusto also available in a tubo for $41.75. Each cigar bears a vintage band indicating the year it was rolled, adding to its collectible appeal.

The Fuente ‘Fuente OpusX Lost City’ line comes with a fascinating backstory tied to the movie “Lost City,” starring Andy Garcia. The film was shot at Chateau de La Fuente in the Dominican Republic, where the tobacco for OpusX cigars is cultivated. To accommodate the film’s shooting schedule, company owner Carlos Fuente Jr. planted tobacco in July, outside the typical growing season. Rather than waste this crop, Fuente decided to age the tobacco, ultimately incorporating it into the OpusX Lost City line. This line includes the Piramide, measuring 6 3/8 by 52 ($43.50), and the Double Robusto at 5 3/4 by 52 ($42.50), with the latter also available in a tubo for $43.99.

Both the Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario and the OpusX Lost City cigars are crafted in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. These releases are not only a testament to Arturo Fuente’s commitment to quality but also to their philanthropic efforts, as a portion of the proceeds from both lines supports the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation and the Lost City Scholarship Fund. Distribution is handled by Prometheus International Inc. in Los Angeles, ensuring these prized cigars reach aficionados across the globe.
