The Troublemaker: J.C. Newman Unveils Bold New Cigar in Diamond Crown Julius Caeser Line

October 8, 2024 Inspector L 2 min read

J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has introduced a new cigar to its prestigious Diamond Crown Julius Caeser line, called The Troublemaker. This latest addition is a 5.75” x 52 soft perfecto, a distinctive shape that adds to its appeal in the luxury cigar market. Each Troublemaker cigar comes packaged in leather boxes, containing 20 cigars, with a suggested retail price of $17 per cigar. As with all cigars in the Diamond Crown range, The Troublemaker is handcrafted by the renowned Fuente Family at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic, maintaining the high standards of quality that have made Diamond Crown cigars a favourite among aficionados.

Drew Newman, a fourth-generation member of the Newman family and the company’s current owner, shared the inspiration behind this unique creation. For years, he had been mentored by Rich Dolak, the vice president of operations at both J.C. Newman and Arturo Fuente. In Dolak’s office, a vintage poster hung above his desk, displaying a cigar shape that fascinated Newman. Three years ago, Newman asked Dolak why they couldn’t create a cigar with that same shape. Dolak took up the challenge, meticulously hand-carving a dowel with a knife to match the shape of the cigar in the poster. That handcrafted dowel became the template for custom moulds used to produce this special edition cigar.

The Troublemaker earned its name because of the complexity involved in creating it. Newman acknowledged that it was one of the most challenging cigars they’ve ever made. The name reflects the cigar’s journey from an idea sparked by a vintage image to a reality after years of development. In fact, Newman humorously noted that the factory has a less-than-printable nickname for the cigar, but it is officially called The Troublemaker.

The first boxes of The Troublemaker were shipped to 36 Diamond Crown Cigar Lounges across the United States. The cigar will remain exclusive to these lounges until early next year, when it becomes available nationwide. This highly anticipated release marks a new chapter in the Diamond Crown Julius Caeser line, offering cigar enthusiasts a unique smoking experience with a backstory as intriguing as the cigar itself.
