My Father Cigars Revives El Rey de los Habanos
The renowned García family, founders of My Father Cigars, is bringing back a piece of its history with the revival of the El Rey de los Habanos cigar line. Originally crafted in the small, iconic factory of the same name in Miami’s Calle Ocho neighbourhood, El Rey de los Habanos was where the García family’s U.S. cigar journey began. Now, with a refreshed blend and updated branding, this historic line is returning to shelves, preserving a legacy rooted in tradition while adapting to modern tastes.
The revived line, officially titled Don Pepín García E.R.H., showcases a new blend featuring a Sumatra rosado oscuro wrapper that encases Nicaraguan fillers from the rich tobacco regions of Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa. This blend marks a shift from the original Nicaraguan puro profile of El Rey de los Habanos, as well as the 2014 iteration that used an Ecuadorian habano wrapper.
The Don Pepín García E.R.H. line will launch in three sizes:
- Robusto (5 x 54)
- Toro (6 x 52)
- Toro Gordo (6 x 60)
Currently, these cigars are exclusive to Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) member stores, though they are expected to reach a wider market next year. This exclusive release aligns with the TAA’s mission to offer unique products for high-volume retailers and marks another noteworthy addition to the association’s cigar portfolio.
Though the García family no longer operates out of the original Calle Ocho location, they continue limited production at a small factory in Doral, Florida. This facility, the modern-day successor to El Rey de los Habanos, produces select, limited-run cigars, often in collaboration with the Tatuaje brand, keeping the spirit of their original Miami operation alive.
The return of El Rey de los Habanos honours the García family’s roots, celebrating both the heritage of Cuban tobacco craftsmanship and the evolution of My Father Cigars. With the new Don Pepín García E.R.H., aficionados can experience a reimagined classic from one of the industry’s most respected families.
