Buffalo Trace and STG Unveil Prohibition Collection: A Perfect Pairing of Whiskies and Cigars

January 22, 2025 Inspector X 2 min read

Buffalo Trace Distillery has launched the second edition of its Prohibition Collection, a tribute to its history as one of the few distilleries authorised to produce medicinal whisky during Prohibition. This unique release includes five whiskies paired with specially crafted cigars by Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG).

The Prohibition Collection features five whiskies inspired by historic brands once produced at Buffalo Trace, then known as George T. Stagg Distillery. Each whisky comes in 375 ml bottles with period-accurate designs, complete with spaces for the medicinal prescriptions that made alcohol legal during Prohibition. The whiskies—Mirror Brook, Very Oldest Procurable (V.O.P.), Anderson’s Belle, Old Fashioned Mountain Corn, and Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey—are crafted with precision, and their exact ages remain a secret.

To complement this historic spirit release, STG has created a collection of five cigars designed for perfect pairing. Each cigar reflects the characteristics of its whisky counterpart:

Mirror Brook: A barber-pole cigar with a mix of maduro and Honduran Corojo wrappers.
V.O.P.: An Ecuadoran sun-grown wrapper paired with Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers.
Anderson’s Belle: A Nicaraguan blend featuring a Sumatra-seed wrapper.
Old Fashioned Mountain Corn: A bold cigar with Ecuador Habano wrapper and Nicaraguan filler.
Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey: A Honduran puro showcasing a Corojo-seed wrapper.

The whiskies are available as a set for $999.99, with a limited run of 750 units. The cigars, sold separately, come in colourful boxes of 20 (five of each blend) for $500.

Both the whiskies and cigars capture the Prohibition Era’s legacy, blending craftsmanship with history. Collectors and aficionados alike can look forward to this annual series, with a third edition slated for 2026.
