Maya Selva Cigars Celebrates 30 Years with the Grand Opening of Fábrica de Puros MSC
This January, Maya Selva marked a historic milestone, welcoming business partners and friends from 18 nations to Honduras for a double celebration: the 30th anniversary of Maya Selva Cigars and the inauguration of its first independent factory, Fábrica de Puros MSC (Maya Selva Cigars). This achievement signifies a new era of independence and enhanced quality control for the esteemed brand.
A Prestigious Ceremony
The grand opening was graced by the presence of the Honduran President and high-ranking dignitaries, who officially inaugurated the factory with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Their attendance underscored the significance of Maya Selva’s contributions to the Honduran cigar industry and its global reputation for excellence.
A Fusion of Art and Craftsmanship
Stepping into the new facility, visitors are immediately captivated by Tabaco Sagrado (Sacred Tobacco), a striking glass mosaic created by renowned Honduran artist Regina Aguilar. This breath-taking installation reflects the essence of tobacco through vibrant colours and dynamic light interplay.
Within the spacious, light-filled halls of the factory, the unmistakable aroma of premium tobacco fills the air. Experienced torcedores (cigar rollers) meticulously handcraft cigars, ensuring that each product maintains the brand’s signature quality. The facility seamlessly integrates tradition and modernity, with architectural details such as the ornate balustrades echoing the iconic Flor de Selva cigar band pattern.
Commitment to Excellence and Sustainability
Beyond aesthetics and functionality, Fábrica de Puros MSC embodies Maya Selva’s unwavering commitment to respect—for her employees, the craft, and the cigars themselves. This philosophy has cultivated an exceptional work environment, attracting some of the finest torcedores, with demand for positions exceeding availability.
For 30 years, Maya Selva Cigars has been synonymous with premium craftsmanship. Marketed under the Flor de Selva, Cumpay, and Villa Zamorano brands, the company exports to 55 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Deeply rooted in Honduras, Maya Selva remains dedicated to local production, with every stage—from tobacco cultivation to packaging—carried out by Honduran artisans.
A Legacy of Vision and Leadership
The launch of Fábrica de Puros MSC is more than just a factory opening; it is the culmination of three decades of entrepreneurial success driven by a passion for tobacco. In an industry traditionally dominated by men, Maya Selva has established herself as a visionary leader, with her brands earning international acclaim and numerous awards.
With over 100 direct employees and countless others indirectly involved, the new factory represents not only a celebration of past achievements but also a commitment to future growth. Maya Selva Cigars continues to honour the culture, history, and craftsmanship of Honduras, celebrating 30 years of excellence with the opening of Fábrica de Puros MSC in Danlí, Honduras.
