This year, the legendary Romeo y Julieta cigar brand celebrates its 150th anniversary, marking a century and a half of excellence in the world of Habanos. To commemorate this historic occasion, Habanos S.A. has unveiled the Romeo y Julieta Amantes, a special release that pays homage to the brand’s rich heritage and enduring appeal.
The Romeo y Julieta Amantes is a 6-inch (153mm) x 53 Sobresalientes vitola, a format previously featured in other limited releases such as the Por Larrañaga Sobresalientes and the 2016 Romeo y Julieta Capuletos Edición Limitada. This vitola offers a well-balanced smoking experience, maintaining the signature smoothness and complexity that Romeo y Julieta cigars are known for.
A distinguishing feature of the Amantes is its exclusive band, which prominently displays the number “150” in the centre, signifying the anniversary milestone. Additionally, a secondary Romeo y Julieta band wraps around the foot of the cigar, enhancing its elegant presentation. The cigars will be packaged in boxes of 20, though it remains unclear whether the production will be limited.
Habanos S.A. officially introduced the Romeo y Julieta Amantes at the Festival del Habano XXV, Cuba’s prestigious annual cigar festival. As is customary with Habanos’ major announcements, details regarding pricing and the exact release date have yet to be disclosed.
Interestingly, Altadis U.S.A., which oversees the non-Cuban Romeo y Julieta brand in the United States and maintains ownership ties to Habanos S.A., has also launched its own Romeo y Julieta 150th Anniversary line. This Dominican-made edition features a three-vitola lineup, further commemorating the iconic brand’s milestone.
