Sobremesa Solita ‘Red’ Release: A Bold New Addition from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust (DTT) is set to unveil its latest creation, the Sobremesa Solita ‘Red’, a bolder, richer iteration of the brand’s beloved Sobremesa Solita blend. Beginning Tuesday, February 25th, 2025, this limited-production cigar will be available through select retailers, offering aficionados a fresh yet familiar smoking experience.
A Richer Evolution of a Classic
The Sobremesa Solita ‘Red’ is a 6.25 x 46 parejo presented in a semi-boîte nature dress box, consistent with the brand’s signature aesthetic. This new release is a stronger varietal of the original seven-tobacco core blend, first introduced in 2015. It features a dark rosado Grade 1 Ecuador Habano wrapper, a San Andrés Negro binder, and a complex filler blend of four Nicaraguan tobaccos and a Pennsylvania Seedleaf. While the core liga originally debuted as simply “Sobremesa,” it was rebranded as Sobremesa Solita in 2024 to differentiate it from its milder Connecticut Shade counterpart, Sobremesa Brulée.
Steve Saka’s Personal Touch
Steve Saka, the founder and master blender at DTT, has long had a deep connection with Sobremesa Solita. He describes the Cervantes Fino vitola as a personal favourite, a cigar he has continuously refined over the years. After experimenting with adjustments to the blend, he found himself gravitating toward a richer, fuller-bodied version—what he now considers the perfected expression of the original concept.
“Sobremesa Solita has a very special place in my heart. It was our debut release and has helped solidify our small family company over the last decade,” says Saka. “The thick Lonsdale Cervantes Fino was always my personal favourite, but after tweaking the blend, I knew I had to share this revised liga regardless of commercial implications.”
The Sobremesa Solita ‘Red’ retains the nuanced flavour profile of the original but with enhanced depth and body. Smokers can expect notes of Dutch-pressed cocoa, Indian Ceylon cinnamon, anise, and a sweet clover honey finish, but with a heavier presence and richer complexity.
Unique Red Label and Limited Availability
To distinguish the ‘Red’ from the core Solita blend, this new release will be adorned with the classicCrown bandin a red colourway. The cigars will be packaged in 13-count dress boxes, priced at $17.95 per cigar and $233.50 per box. Availability will be highly limited, ensuring its exclusivity among select premium retailers.
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust remains committed to providing consumers with cigars that match the personal standards of its creator. With the Sobremesa Solita ‘Red’, Saka invites cigar enthusiasts to experience a bolder, more intense evolution of one of his most cherished blends.
