Asylum Cigars Unveils Megalophobia: The 13 x 134 Cigar

April 9, 2025 Inspector X 3 min read

Asylum Cigars pushes the limits of size with the Asylum 13 Megalophobia, a massive 13-inch by 134 ring gauge cigar. Priced at $125 each, it’s set to ship in late June or July, challenging the very notion of what a cigar can be.

Asylum Cigars Unveils Megalophobia: The 13 x 134 Cigar

Asylum Cigars is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of cigar sizes. Following the release of the 7 x 70s, 8 x 80s, and 9 x 90s, the company is set to unveil a new behemoth that is sure to turn heads — the Asylum 13 Megalophobia. This cigar, which measures an astounding 13 inches in length and a 134-ring gauge (roughly two inches in diameter), is an extreme addition to Asylum’s already larger-than-life portfolio.

A Cigar That Defies Expectations

Priced at $125 per cigar, the Asylum 13 Megalophobia is not for the faint-hearted. Each box, retailing at $250, contains only two cigars, which would traditionally hold 25 standard cigars. Asylum has set the bar for what some might consider the ultimate “big cigar” experience, with each Megalophobia weighing in at more than 15 robustos worth of tobacco. To put it in perspective, it contains more tobacco than three of Asylum’s infamous 9 x 90 cigars.

While the cigar’s blend remains undisclosed, the sheer size alone is sure to command attention from both enthusiasts and casual smokers alike. Asylum’s reputation for creating unique, larger-than-life cigars has made it a brand that stands out in the industry, and the Megalophobia is poised to take that reputation to the next level.

The Legacy of Asylum’s Big Cigars

Asylum co-founder Tom Lazuka is credited with the idea behind these oversized cigars. Reflecting on his inspiration, Lazuka mentioned noticing empty boxes of large cigars in humidor displays during his visits to shops, which led him to realise there was a gap in the market for this unique style of cigar. Since the brand’s inception in 2012, Asylum has consistently delivered cigars that focus on bigger, bolder sizes, making them the go-to brand for cigar lovers seeking something out of the ordinary.

The Megalophobia is not only the largest cigar in the Asylum range but also marks the latest evolution of the company’s ongoing trend of offering extreme cigar sizes. In 2021, the company made waves with its Asylum April Fools cigar, which featured a 9 x 90 size — now, they’ve taken that concept to new extremes.

A Humorous Touch

Asylum has always had a playful side, and the Megalophobia is no exception. Inside the box, smokers will find a letter that “pokes fun” at the company’s competitors, adopting a tongue-in-cheek theme of “enough is enough”. Asylum’s humour and audacity are part of what has made them a favourite among cigar enthusiasts, and the Megalophobia continues this tradition of pushing both size limits and industry conventions.

What’s Next?

The Asylum 13 Megalophobia is expected to begin shipping in June or July 2025, and with only limited quantities available, this cigar is set to be an exclusive offering for those bold enough to take on a cigar of this magnitude.

Asylum Cigars continues to challenge the norm with its audacious offerings, and the Megalophobia is a testament to the brand’s commitment to providing cigar enthusiasts with an unforgettable experience — both in size and taste.
