Fratello Unveils Puro Collection with Dominican 1821 Debut at PCA 2025
Known for its adventurous blending and global approach to tobacco, Fratello Cigars is taking a bold new direction with the launch of its Puro Collection—a line of cigars crafted exclusively from tobaccos of a single origin. The first release, titled Fratello 1821 Dominican Republic, will make its debut at the 2025 PCA Convention and Trade Show in New Orleans and is expected to begin shipping to retailers in September.
Produced at the renowned La Aurora S.A. factory in the Dominican Republic, this inaugural release is composed entirely of Dominican leaf, celebrating the country’s rich tobacco heritage. The Fratello 1821 Dominican Republic is presented in a generous 6 x 58 Toro vitola, delivered in vibrant 12-count boxes, with each cigar priced at $18.21 USD.
Fratello’s founder, Omar de Frias, commented on the release: “We at Fratello have been known for working on tobacco blends from various countries. With the Puro Collection, I wanted to challenge myself and create something truly extraordinary with a single-origin blend, and the Fratello 1821 Dominican Republic delivered.”
A Nod to History and Heritage
The name 1821 holds dual historical relevance, marking the year of independence for both the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua from Spanish colonial rule. This historical reference lends depth and narrative to the line, tying the blend’s origin to a broader cultural identity.
While the Dominican puro sets the tone, Fratello has confirmed that the next release in the Puro Collection will be Fratello 1821 Nicaragua, further reinforcing the series’ intent to explore the nuanced expressions of individual terroirs.
A New Direction for Fratello
Fratello’s move toward single-origin cigars signals a creative evolution for the brand, which has long been celebrated for its multi-origin blending philosophy. By narrowing the focus to a single nation’s tobacco, the Puro Collection aims to highlight the unique flavour characteristics, textures, and complexities that can emerge when one origin takes centre stage.
Fratello’s decision to start with the Dominican Republic—home to some of the world’s most revered cigar factories and ageing traditions—shows confidence in the country’s ability to offer a complete and satisfying smoking experience with nothing but local tobacco.
As the Puro Collection begins its journey, enthusiasts and retailers alike will be watching closely to see how this single-origin concept continues to unfold—and what other nations will be honoured in future releases.
