Ceniza Fina Connecticut: A Masterclass in Mellow Sophistication

April 10, 2025 Inspector X 3 min read

Ceniza Fina proudly unveils its Connecticut blend—a meticulously refined expression of balance, flavour, and expert craftsmanship. Developed in collaboration with blending virtuoso Hostos Fernandez Quesada, this cigar delivers a nuanced yet accessible smoking experience.

Following the widespread acclaim of their debut Corojo release in 2023, Ceniza Fina Cigars returns with an eagerly anticipated new offering: the Ceniza Fina Connecticut. This latest blend represents not only a continuation of the brand’s mission to deliver premium, flavour-forward cigars, but also a refined evolution in character and complexity.

Where the original Corojo blend found its way into championship celebrations with the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Eagles, the Connecticut aims to capture a more serene, elegant profile—while retaining the same meticulous attention to detail and balance. This blend was developed concurrently with the original release, but its nuanced composition required extended time and patience to perfect.

Crafted at the esteemed Tabacalera La Isla in Santiago, Dominican Republic, under the guidance of Hostos Fernandez Quesada—a name synonymous with blending excellence—the Ceniza Fina Connecticut features an expertly curated selection of tobaccos. Its structure comprises a silky Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador, a robust Criollo ’98 binder, and a complex filler blend of HVA, Criollo ’98, Corojo, and Nicaraguan Jalapa. This combination results in a flavour profile that is both approachable and richly satisfying.

Expect delicate yet defined notes of cream, vanilla, nutty oak, sourdough, and a whisper of white pepper—a palate that speaks to both seasoned aficionados and new cigar lovers alike. The strength is mellow, making it ideal for a morning smoke or an afternoon reflection, without sacrificing depth or character.

The Connecticut is available in four box-pressed vitolas:
• Corona (5.5” x 48): $12 (Single) | $240 (Box of 20)
• Robusto (5” x 52): $12.50 (Single) | $250 (Box of 20)
• Toro (6” x 52): $13.50 (Single) | $260 (Box of 20)
• Robusto Gordo (5.5” x 56): $14 (Single) | $270 (Box of 20)

With only 5,000 cigars per vitola produced—totalling 15,000 cigars and 750 boxes—this is a limited release that underscores the brand’s commitment to quality over quantity. Each cigar and box comes individually barcoded, ensuring both authenticity and traceability, with distribution handled exclusively by Pospiech Distribution.

Sam and Rosie Lopez, owners of Ceniza Fina Cigars, describe the project as a labour of love: “This partnership is the result of our friendship and shared passion for exceptional cigars… We hope you find as much pleasure in experiencing them as we have had in creating them.”

Hostos Fernandez Quesada, whose factory has produced cigars for Warped, Matilde, Viaje, and Casa 1910, echoed the sentiment: “Very excited to be working with my family from Fine Ash again on this new project. A great cigar from some great people.”

In an era where new releases are frequent yet often fleeting, the Ceniza Fina Connecticut stands as a testament to deliberate, thoughtful cigar-making. It is a blend forged from patience, precision, and passion—a cigar that deserves a place in any humidor, whether you’re celebrating victory or simply savouring the quiet moments in between.
