J.C. Newman Unveils Angel Cuesta Shade: A Historic Cigar with a Modern Twist
J.C. Newman introduces Angel Cuesta Shade, a luxurious hand-rolled cigar wrapped in Nicaraguan Shade, at the 2025 PCA Trade Show. This elegant release celebrates rich cigar history with premium craftsmanship.
This weekend at the 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show in New Orleans, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. is unveiling its latest addition to the Angel Cuesta line: Angel Cuesta Shade. This new release honours a century-old cigar tradition with a fresh twist on a historical name.
Named after Angel LaMadrid Cuesta, a co-founder of the iconic Cuesta-Rey brand, this cigar pays tribute to a legacy steeped in prestige. Angel Cuesta was once the official cigar of King Alfonso XIII of Spain, who reigned from 1886 to 1931. The Angel Cuesta Shade follows in the footsteps of the award-winning Angel Cuesta Rosado, which debuted two years ago.
Handcrafted in the distinguished “American Room” of J.C. Newman’s historic El Reloj factory in Tampa, Florida, the Angel Cuesta Shade is wrapped in a beautiful, silky Nicaraguan Shade wrapper. Inside is a carefully selected blend of aged tobaccos sourced from three continents, promising a nuanced and complex smoking experience. A pigtail cap adds a touch of traditional elegance to its presentation.
The cigar is offered in three vitolas, all packed in cabinets of 20 cigars:
• Doble Robusto (5.5” x 56) – SRP: $20
• Toro (6.25” x 52) – SRP: $21
• Salamones (7.25” x 57) – SRP: $23
Due to the artisanal nature of its production, only 150 cigars are rolled daily by a pair of veteran torcedores, making this a truly limited edition offering. Initially released last autumn as part of the El Reloj Collection box set available to Tobacconist Association of America (TAA) retailers, this marks the first time Angel Cuesta Shade cigars will be available in individual cabinet boxes.
With its refined profile, rich heritage, and small-batch craftsmanship, the Angel Cuesta Shade is an exceptional cigar for collectors, enthusiasts, and connoisseurs seeking a taste of tradition reimagined for today.
