Montecristo Open Slam Set to Launch in the U.K. This Month

A new Cuban cigar is heading to British tobacconists: the Montecristo Open Slam. Set to debut at the IGNITE 2025 Trade Show, it’s the latest release in the sporty, golf-themed Montecristo Open line.

British cigar lovers will soon be able to add a new Cuban vitola to their humidors: the Montecristo Open Slam. Scheduled to launch in the U.K. later this month, the cigar will make its first appearance at the IGNITE 2025 Trade Show, where the official pricing will also be unveiled. Distribution will be handled by Hunters & Frankau, the exclusive distributor of Habanos cigars in the U.K.

Measuring 5 3/5 inches (142mm) by 52 ring gauge, the Open Slam is rolled in a vitola known as Idílicos, a unique size in the Habanos portfolio. In fact, this marks the first and only time a Cuban cigar has used this format, giving collectors and connoisseurs a compelling reason to seek it out.

The Open Slam joins the ranks of the Montecristo Open series—a sporty, outdoor-inspired line that debuted in 2009with the Open Eagle, Open Junior, and Open Master. With its golf-themed branding and accessible flavour profile, the line has carved out a niche among casual smokers and seasoned aficionados alike.

Though full blend details have not yet been released, smokers familiar with the Montecristo Open series can likely expect a medium-bodied profile geared towards a smoother, daytime smoke—perfect for pairing with a round of golf or a spring afternoon in the garden.
