Plasencia Releases Alma del Cielo: A Sky-High Nicaraguan Cigar Experience
Plasencia Cigars has officially launched the Alma del Cielo, a Nicaraguan puro crafted with high-altitude tobacco from Condega. This fourth release in the Alma series is now shipping globally following a dramatic debut at the PCA trade show.
A Heavenly Debut for Plasencia’s Alma del Cielo
Unveiled in unforgettable fashion at the 2025 PCA trade show in New Orleans, Plasencia Cigars’ Alma del Cielo was lowered from the ceiling as part of a theatrical presentation accompanied by an R&B performance from October London. Introduced by Nestor Andrés Plasencia, the cigar’s name—translating to “soul of the sky”—is more than poetic branding. It reflects the unique origins of its tobacco, grown at an altitude of 3,500 feet in Nicaragua’s Condega region.
This lofty setting is Finca San Julián, a former cattle and coffee farm with deep familial roots. Originally owned by Nestor’s grandmother, the land was repurchased in 1998 by Nestor Plasencia Sr., Cigar Aficionado Hall of Famer, for his wife. Today, it serves as the birthplace for part of the filler tobacco in Alma del Cielo.
Unlike most Nicaraguan tobacco, typically grown in low valleys, the San Julián farm’s elevation produces cooler temperatures and greater sun exposure—particularly in the absence of valley shade. According to Nestor Andrés, these high-altitude conditions yield distinctive flavours. The blend is a Nicaraguan puro, with all tobacco grown by the Plasencias, including a wrapper leaf from Jalapa.
The Alma del Cielo is crafted as a medium-bodied cigar and comes in three vitolas:
• Celeste (4 7/8 x 52) – $25
• Boreal (6 1/8 x 54) – $27.50
• Amanecer (6 x 60, hexagon-pressed) – $29.50
As with other cigars in the Alma series, Alma del Cielo is produced at Plasencia Cigars S.A. in Nicaragua and packed in elegant boxes of 10. With its blend of family legacy, innovative cultivation, and striking presentation, this release is bound to appeal to aficionados seeking something both refined and rooted in tradition
Inspector X had the pleasure of smoking both the Celeste and Amanecer last week and was impressed. Last week the cigars debuted in Hong Kong and The Netherlands as well.
