Hoyo de Monterrey Launches “Shade” – A Mild Honduran Cigar with Shade-Grown Wrapper
Hoyo de Monterrey introduces the Shade line, a new mild cigar wrapped in shade-grown Honduran tobacco. Launching June 2, it completes the brand’s trio alongside the Rojo and Oscuro lines.
General Cigar Co. is set to expand its non-Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey portfolio with the release of Hoyo de Monterrey Shade—a mild-bodied cigar that showcases a rare Honduran-grown, shade wrapper. Unlike traditional shade-grown leaves sourced from Connecticut or Ecuador, this wrapper hails directly from Honduras, offering a distinctive twist on a classic profile.
Manufactured at the HATSA factory in Danlí, Honduras, the Shade marks a continuation of General Cigar’s recent homage to the Hoyo brand, following the launches of the medium-bodied Rojo and the bold Oscuro. With its milder strength, Shade completes the trio, catering to smokers who prefer a more delicate and nuanced experience.
What sets the Shade apart is its all-Honduran composition—wrapper, binder, and filler—resulting in a cigar that is not only flavourful but also proudly representative of its country of origin. The Honduran shade-grown wrapper adds a smooth, creamy character to the smoke, making it an ideal option for both novice and seasoned cigar smokers seeking a lighter profile.
Affordability is also a key feature of this release. The Hoyo de Monterrey Shade is available in three sizes, all priced under $9:
• Rothschild (4 1/2 x 50) – $5.99
• Toro (6 x 52) – $7.49
• Gigante (6 x 60) – $8.49
Each vitola comes in practical 10-count boxes, making them a budget-friendly addition to any humidor. With its June 2 launch date just around the corner, retailers and consumers alike can look forward to a smooth, well-balanced cigar at an everyday price point.
