Casa Fuente to Close After 20 Years in Las Vegas
Casa Fuente, one of the world’s most iconic cigar shops, will close its doors on 20 October 2025. The closure comes as the store’s lease at The Forum Shops in Caesars Palace expires after two decades of operation.
A Two-Decade Legacy
Casa Fuente opened in summer 2005, founded by Michael and Robert Frey in partnership with Robert Levin, owner of Ashton and Holt’s, and the Fuente family. The store quickly became a tribute to Arturo Fuente cigars, with its walls covered in Fuente imagery and memorabilia. Its humidor carried almost exclusively Fuente-made cigars, including rare OpusX and Between the Lines.
The shop also became famous for its own Casa Fuente line, sold primarily in Las Vegas until 2021. That year, Arturo Fuente began shipping limited quantities nationwide, making the cigars more accessible.
Why Casa Fuente Is Closing
Michael Frey explained that several factors contributed to the closure, but the decisive issue was the patio. Casa Fuente was designed as four spaces: a bar, a retail area, a walk-in humidor, and the patio. The patio, while inside The Forum Shops mall, provided a unique smoking and drinking area.
For years, Casa Fuente fought legal and ventilation battles to preserve patio smoking. However, landlord pressure and complaints from other tenants reduced seating dramatically. Losing patio revenue, combined with an expiring lease, sealed the store’s fate.
An Iconic Venue for Rare Cigars
Casa Fuente stood out as one of the few places in the United States where collectors could reliably find ultra-rare Arturo Fuente cigars. It was also one of the city’s most popular cigar lounges, known as much for its mojitos as for its cigars. As Frey put it, “Vegas is hustle, hustle, hustle, but you take two hours out of your day to have a mojito and a cigar and time sort of stops.”
What’s Next for the Frey Family
Although Casa Fuente is closing, the Frey family remains deeply involved in the Las Vegas cigar scene. They operate Casa de Montecristo inside Caesars Palace, the Montecristo Cigar Bar at Paris Las Vegas, and Cigarbox just off The Strip. Frey has not ruled out another Casa Fuente in the future, but only if the perfect location appears.
Until the final day on 20 October, Casa Fuente will continue business as usual. Michael Frey already knows how he will mark the occasion: by smoking one last double corona at the bar.
