Kopp Tobaccos Launches Its First Cigar Line: Dios del Sol
Kopp Tobaccos, a major name in Germany’s premium cigar distribution scene, is stepping into cigar production for the first time with Dios del Sol. This marks a significant milestone for the company, which represents more than two dozen premium cigar brands across Europe.
A Blend Rooted in Tradition
Developed by Oliver Kopp, Dios del Sol was created in collaboration with an undisclosed but renowned cigar-making family. The name translates to “God of the Sun” and draws inspiration from Central American cultures, where the sun symbolised life, renewal, and spiritual connection.
The cigar’s blend reflects this theme of vitality and balance. It features a Connecticut-seed wrapper grown in Honduras, a Honduran broadleaf binder, and fillers from Honduras’ Jamastrán Valley and Nicaragua’s Jalapa region. The company describes the profile as creamy, aromatic, and gently spiced, with a natural sweetness that lingers throughout the smoke.
A Modern Connection to Ancient Roots
In a press statement, Kopp Tobaccos explained the inspiration behind the line:
“The Dios del Sol invites aficionados to embark on a journey back to the times when the Maya, Inca, Aztec, and Taíno peoples smoked tobacco leaves in ritual ceremonies to connect with their deities.”
The company aims to merge ancient tobacco traditions with a modern sensibility, crafting cigars that celebrate both heritage and craftsmanship.
Six Sizes to Suit Every Aficionado
Dios del Sol will debut in six vitolas, all offered in boxes of 14 cigars, with retail pricing in Germany ranging from €5.50 to €8.50 per cigar:
Half Corona (4 x 42) – €5.50 (€77 per box)
Corona (5½ x 44) – €6.50 (€91 per box)
Robusto (5 x 52) – €6.90 (€96.60 per box)
Toro (6 x 54) – €7.50 (€105 per box)
Belicoso (6 x 52) – €7.90 (€110.60 per box)
Churchill (7 x 52) – €8.50 (€119 per box)
Expanding Beyond Germany
While Dios del Sol has launched in Germany, Kopp Tobaccos plans to expand internationally. The cigars will reach Sweden, Austria, and Estonia in November, with additional European markets to follow. The company also confirmed that U.S. distribution plans are in progress.
Described as “the beginning of a new era,” Dios del Sol represents Kopp Tobaccos’ evolution from distributor to cigar maker, and a journey that connects the past, present, and future of premium tobacco.
