Former Davidoff Veteran Carlos Escalona Joins Don Emmanuel Cigars as Brand Expands Globally
A New Chapter for Don Emmanuel Cigars
A powerful alliance is taking shape in the premium cigar world. Don Emmanuel Cigars, founded by Brazilian Master Cigar Sommelier Don Emmanuel, has announced that Carlos Escalona, a former veteran of Davidoff of Geneva, has joined the company to help guide its growth and international expansion.
The connection between Emmanuel and Escalona was facilitated by legendary master blender Eladio Díaz, who spent more than 30 years at Davidoff before founding Tabacalera Díaz Cabrera in the Dominican Republic. There, Díaz collaborated with Don Emmanuel to craft the brand’s debut collection: the Anunnaki line.
Building a Brand with Soul and Expertise
The Anunnaki series draws inspiration from ancient Sumerian mythology, blending history, spirituality, and exceptional craftsmanship. Composed of seven distinct tobaccos, the line features a Dominican wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés Negro binder, and a five-region Dominican filler.
“When Carlos Escalona decided to join us, it felt like destiny,” said Don Emmanuel. “Eladio and I built these cigars with soul and precision. Carlos brings the same dedication and understanding of what true luxury represents.”
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Emmanuel blends culture and artistry into his work. His fascination with cigars began early through his grandmother’s involvement with Suerdieck, once Brazil’s largest cigar manufacturer. Over two decades, he transformed that fascination into mastery—earning recognition as the highest-scoring Master Cigar Sommelier in the world by the International Association of Cigar Sommeliers (IACS).
The Anunnaki Line: A Journey of Balance and Reflection
The Anunnaki embodies Emmanuel’s philosophy: cigars as art, energy, and connection. “They are born of the elements—earth, air, fire, and water,” he said. “Each cigar carries history, emotion, and connection.”
The smoking experience evolves from sweet and floral notes into layers of cedar, cocoa, toasted nuts, and mineral spice. The Mexican binder adds earthiness, while the Dominican fillers provide a creamy, medium-to-full-bodied balance.
