J.C. Newman Joins America’s Semiquincentennial Celebration

J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has announced a historic partnership with the United States Semiquincentennial Commission. The company will feature the official “America250” logo on all cigars rolled at its El Reloj factory, honouring the 250th anniversary of the United States on 4 July 2026. This marks a major moment for both the brand and the wider cigar industry.

A National Milestone

The 250th anniversary commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. To support this milestone, the Semiquincentennial Commission was established by Congress to coordinate nationwide programming. America250, the nonprofit partner organisation, works with the Commission to licence branding for American-made products that celebrate the country’s heritage.

The America250 board includes private citizens, U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators from both parties. Their mission is to engage Americans in the anniversary through cultural events, branded programmes and special collaborations such as this one.

Why J.C. Newman Was Chosen

J.C. Newman earned the partnership in part because El Reloj, its 115-year-old factory in Tampa, is the last large cigar factory still operating in the United States. Cigars hold deep historical roots in America. Tobacco played a central economic role in the early colonies and remains entwined with the country’s identity. Figures such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew tobacco, but the tradition stretches back far earlier, with indigenous communities cultivating the plant long before the nation’s founding.

El Reloj’s Legacy

El Reloj has stood as a landmark in Tampa’s cigar industry for more than a century. The factory continues to produce handmade cigars, keeping America’s cigar-making tradition alive. Drew Newman, fourth-generation owner, expressed pride in contributing to the anniversary:
“J.C. Newman is proud to roll official cigars of the 250th Anniversary of the United States. It is our privilege to keep America’s historic cigar-making tradition alive.”

The America250 Collection

Next month, cigars rolled at El Reloj will begin shipping with a secondary foot band featuring the America250 seal. The branding will appear across all Tampa-rolled cigars, including The American, Angel Cuesta Rosado, Angel Cuesta Shade, LeRoy Neiman and Tampa Smokers.

Release Schedule

According to the company, the first America250-branded cigars will ship next month. A larger release is planned for 2026 as the anniversary approaches.
