247Sports and Other Companies Have Released a Cigar Called Outsider

July 29, 2022 Billie 2 min read

Jay Cutler, a former NFL quarterback who played for the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins is the next retired sportsman who ventures into cigars. Together with Hendrik Kelner Jr from Kelner Boutique Cigar Factory and Shannon B. Terry, the former owner of Rivals.com, 247Sports and other companies he released a cigar called Outsider. A 7×50 Churchill, limited edition with an MSRP of $30.

The cigars are made with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Dominican binder. The filler comes from the Dominican Republic and Peru. Some of the tobacco is grown by the Kelner family, a family with decades of experience and a reputation to uphold.

Cutler got into cigars early in his NFL career, with the Broncos, the first team he played for. “When I first got drafted to Denver [in 2006], Mike Shanahan was the coach, and he smoked cigars, loved cigars,” Cutler says. “At the end of every preseason he would have a party at his house, and he always had someone rolling fresh cigars…that got me started. When I was in Miami, my last year in ’17, we would go to cigar bars quite a bit, sit there and smoke, and that was a cool little introduction.”

While buying the overhyped and overpriced Atabey cigars, he had the idea to create his own line of cigars and save some money compared to buying Atabey. “I was like guys we’re just racking up bills—can we just make our own cigars? At some point it’s got to be cheaper.”
