A Montecristo Masterpiece with a 20-Year-Old Wrapper: A New Arrival in December
Attention cigar aficionados! Montecristo is set to release an exciting new addition to its collection this December. Dubbed the Montecristo M, this premium cigar comes with a special twist: a wrapper leaf that’s been aged for an impressive 20 years. According to Altadis U.S.A., the brand’s distributor and owner, this exceptional leaf comes from Ecuador and is made from Connecticut seeds, promising a smoke like no other.
Crafted by a Master in Nicaragua
The Montecristo M follows in the footsteps of other Montecristos within the Altadis portfolio by being produced in Nicaragua, under the expert craftsmanship of renowned cigar maker A.J. Fernandez. This cigar’s binder and filler are also Nicaraguan, but the real star is the wrapper. This aged Ecuador Connecticut wrapper was sourced from David Perez, a fifth-generation tobacco grower and the owner of A.S.P. Enterprises, one of the most respected names in the tobacco world.
What sets the Montecristo M apart is its medium body blend. While many Montecristo cigars crafted by Fernandez are known for their bold flavours, this particular cigar has been blended to showcase the refined, nuanced character of the aged wrapper. The strength of the Nicaraguan binder and filler has been deliberately scaled back to allow the subtle notes of the Ecuador Connecticut wrapper to take centre stage.
Available in Four Elegant Sizes
The Montecristo M will be offered in four distinctive sizes, all packaged in sleek, curved boxes of 20 cigars. The available sizes are:
• Robusto (4 3/4 x 54) – Priced at $30
• Toro (6 x 52) – $32
• No. 2 Torpedo (6 1/4 x 52) – $33.50
• Churchill (7 x 50) – $35
For added convenience, the Toro size will also be available in a five-pack, perfect for those wanting to sample this exceptional creation.
A Collaboration of Legends
Rafael Nodal, Vice President of Product Capability at Tabacalera USA, Altadis U.S.A.’s parent company, expressed his pride in the project, saying, “We are honoured to collaborate with David Perez and A.J. Fernandez on this unique project. Years of meticulous blending have resulted in a harmonious combination of extra-fermented Nicaraguan tobaccos and the nuanced flavours of the aged Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper.”
Although the Montecristo M is not classified as a limited edition, production will be in small batches due to the limited availability of the 20-year-old wrapper leaf. Each box will include a certificate of authenticity, personally signed by Fernandez, Perez, and Nodal, ensuring the cigar’s exclusivity and craftsmanship.
A Sneak Peek for Tobacconists
Though the cigars will officially hit the shelves in December, attendees of the Tobacconists’ Association of America conference in Aruba next week will get an early preview at a special Montecristo dinner.
Davide Moro, CEO of Altadis U.S.A., remarked on the significance of the release, saying, “This launch marks a significant milestone for Montecristo as we introduce an exciting new dimension to the brand. Montecristo M embodies our commitment to the brand’s continued evolution and highlights the characteristics of rare and aged tobaccos.”
Prepare for an exceptional smoking experience with the Montecristo M, a true celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and the finest aged tobacco.
