Arturo Fuente Don Carlos 90 Años Begins Shipping Worldwide
Arturo Fuente has released the Don Carlos 90 Años, a special double-wrapped cigar created to honour the late Carlos Fuente Sr. Combining tradition, innovation, and patience, it represents a true milestone for the Fuente family legacy.
A Tribute to Carlos Fuente Sr.
The Don Carlos 90 Años celebrates what would have been the 90th birthday of Carlos Fuente Sr., who passed away in 2016 at the age of 81. His son, Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr., conceived the project as a heartfelt tribute and a reflection of his father’s lasting influence on the world of cigars.
Carlito Fuente explained that the idea took shape a few years ago. It honours his father’s dedication to craftsmanship while introducing a unique blend that bridges history and innovation. The Don Carlos brand itself first launched in 1976 in Nicaragua, though tragedy soon reshaped its path.
A Story of Resilience and Evolution
From Nicaragua to the Dominican Republic
When the original Arturo Fuente factory in Nicaragua burned down in 1978, the Fuente family relocated to the Dominican Republic. There, the Don Carlos line was reborn with Cameroon wrappers, becoming one of the company’s most cherished blends.
A Two-Year Creation Process
The new Don Carlos 90 Años begins as a traditional Don Carlos cigar, with Dominican fillers and binder wrapped in a Cameroon leaf. After one year of aging, each cigar returns to the rolling floor to receive a second wrapper — a corojo-seed leaf grown on the family’s own Chateau de la Fuente estate in the Dominican Republic. It then rests for another year before final packaging.
A Collector’s Piece
The cigar comes in a 5 ¾ x 47 robusto format, priced at $13 per stick and available in elegant boxes of 90. The limited presentation and intricate process highlight the Fuente family’s unmatched attention to detail.
While regular shipments began this week, select retailers received early allocations during events hosted by José Blanco. This two-wrapper cigar is more than a release — it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, heritage, and one man’s enduring passion for perfection.
