Asylum’s 134-Ring Gauge Megalophobia Ships to Stores
Asylum has released one of the largest cigars ever made for regular sale. The Asylum 13 Megalophobia, a 13 x 134 monster, is now shipping to retailers across the U.S.
A Cigar of Enormous Proportions
The Megalophobia measures 13 inches in length with a staggering 134-ring gauge. That translates to two inches in diameter. By weight, each cigar contains more than 15 robustos worth of tobacco.
CLE Cigar Co., which produces Asylum, has not disclosed the blend. Each cigar retails for $125 and comes packaged in boxes of two. To complete the experience, each box includes a Palió Veneto quad-flame lighter.
Inside, smokers also find a letter written in Asylum’s playful style. The note reportedly pokes fun at competitors while reinforcing the brand’s bold “enough is enough” approach.
Asylum’s Big-Ring Heritage
Asylum built its reputation on thick-ring cigars. Co-founder Tom Lazuka recalls walking into shops and noticing empty boxes in the larger-ring section. He saw the demand and leaned into it.
Since its founding in 2012, Asylum has consistently produced big cigars. In 2021, it introduced the April Fools series, a 9 x 90 size, which quickly captured attention.
The Megalophobia takes that tradition to a new level. At 13 inches long, it dwarfs most cigars in the market.
Other Oversized Cigars in Context
The cigar world has seen some equally unusual creations. Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. offers The Woody, a 21-inch long cigar with an 80-ring gauge. Even more extreme, Gran Habano once created El Gigante for the 2010 IPCPR trade show. That cigar measured nearly 19 feet long, with a 1,920-ring gauge and 1,600 pounds of tobacco—enough to roll 25,000 cigars.
