Black Star Line Cigars to Release Meadowood MLK at PCA 2025
Black Star Line Cigars is set to debut a limited-edition line, Meadowood MLK, at the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show in New Orleans. This cigar pays tribute to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s early experience working on a Connecticut tobacco farm before attending college.
Produced at TABACALERA LA iSLA, the Meadowood MLK features a Dominican corojo 99 wrapper, a Dominican binder, and a diverse filler blend incorporating American, Brazilian, Dominican, and Peruvian tobacco. The result is a medium-bodied cigar crafted to offer a balanced and complex smoking experience. It will be released in a 5 x 50 robusto vitola, priced at $11.99 per cigar or $239.98 for a 20-count box. Production is limited to just 250 boxes.
According to Black Star Line Cigars’ owner Aric Bey, King’s time on the tobacco farm was influential in shaping his path, as he delivered small sermons to fellow workers and observed the contrasting racial dynamics between the North and the South. This historical connection is a key inspiration behind the cigar.
The packaging design, developed by Cigar Dojo, features an old gold and black colour scheme, paying homage to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the oldest intercollegiate historically African American fraternity, of which King was a member. The artwork also includes imagery of tobacco fields and a barn, reflecting the cigar’s connection to his early experiences.
Bey emphasised that the cigar’s name and concept symbolise unity, a belief deeply held by King. Meadowood MLK cigars are set to begin shipping two to three weeks after the trade show, offering enthusiasts a unique blend with historical significance.
