Caldwell Cigar Co. Expands Royal Line with Long Live the Queen Maduro

July 10, 2024 Inspector X 2 min read

Caldwell Cigar Co.’s Long Live the Queen line, produced in the Dominican Republic, is set to expand with the introduction of a maduro-wrapped version. This new offering was showcased at the PCA trade show in March and is expected to reach retailers later this month.

Initially released in 2022, the Long Live the Queen line features a royal theme and quickly gained acclaim. The Ace of Hearts size from the original release earned the No. 14 spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list of 2023. The new Maduro version offers a distinctive twist, utilizing a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper instead of the Cameroon wrapper found on the core line. The cigar’s construction includes an Indonesian Sumatra binder and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and the United States, though Caldwell has not disclosed the specific U.S. tobacco used.

The company describes Long Live the Queen Maduro as medium to full in strength, catering to those who appreciate robust flavours. This new line is rolled at the recently built Tabacalera William Ventura factory, which replaced the original facility that was destroyed by fire in 2022. This Maduro release marks the first new product from Caldwell since the factory’s reconstruction.

Long Live the Queen Maduro will be available in several sizes:
• Queen’s Crest: 5 1/2 inches by 46 ring gauge ($14.20)
• Queen’s Coronet: 5 inches by 50 ring gauge ($14.80)
• Queen’s Chalice: 6 inches by 54 ring gauge ($16.00)
• Queen’s Charge: 6 inches by 60 ring gauge ($18.00)
• Wild Card (Box-Pressed): 6 inches by 52 ring gauge ($20.00)

Mirroring the original line, the Maduro cigars will be packaged in boxes of 10, distinguished by their black colour in contrast to the white boxes of the core line.

This year, Caldwell Cigar Co. experienced a significant change when it was acquired by Laudisi Enterprises, a company renowned for its premium pipes and pipe tobacco. Despite the acquisition, founders Robert Caldwell and Juan Jaramillo have remained with the company, continuing in their roles as vice president and director of cigar operations, respectively.

With the introduction of the Long Live the Queen Maduro, Caldwell Cigar Co. continues to innovate and expand its offerings, maintaining its reputation for quality and distinctiveness in the premium cigar market. The new maduro-wrapped cigars promise to deliver a rich, flavourful experience that complements the esteemed original line, appealing to both long-time aficionados and new customers alike.
